We have collaborated with zoos to pursue the following:
- Preserving species of Tsushima Leopard Cat.
- Extending ecological knowledge about Leopard Cats in captivity.
- Educatin the Tsushima Leopard Cat’s endangerment.
- Breeding Leopard Cat for re-introduction to the wild.
Following Nine Zoos are working for the breeding program. Currently there are in total 35 Tsushima Leopard Cats:

- Nasu Animal Kingdom
- Inogashira Park Zoo
- Yokohama Zoological Gardens "ZOORASIA" *1
- Toyoma Family Park
- Higashiyama Zoo & Botanical Gardens
- Kyoto City Zoo
- Fukuoka Zoo & Botanical Garden
- Saikai National Park Kujukushima Zoo & Botanical Garden
- Oknawa Zoo & Museum
*1: ZOORASIA succeeds in artificial fertilization in 2021 for the first time in Japan.
TWCC and Tsushima Leopard Cat Re-introduction center in Tsushima also keep
Tsushima Leopard Cats for
educational activities, or practical studies of re-introduction project.
Preparing for Re-introduction is needed
No matter how the distribution of Tsushima Leopard Cat would expand, the risk of extinction could
remain.
We continue to search the best way to supplement breeding individuals into the wild.
